The Rotary Club of Cedar Creek Lake, www.RotaryCCL.org chose to review the past six months as their meeting agenda when they met for the first time for 2019 at Vetoni’s Italian Restaurant Jan. 4.
Treasurer Mike Groom presented financial reports and explained for newer members the accounts the club has and how they work. The Foundation Account is the club account which houses all charitable donations and proceeds from fundraisers, from which distributions to the various charities and projects are made, Groom explained.
From that account, distributions total approximately $27,000 for the six months; given back generously to the community they serve with a special emphasis on the area’s children. Some of the highlights include:

$5,000 for the Reading is Fundamental project which distributes books to area elementary schools, presenting and signing the child’s name in the book. For some of the children, it is the first time they have ever had a book of their very own and encourages reading for pleasure, a life-long opportunity for learning and growth.

$16,000 for the annual Klothes for Kids Project in which the club and other volunteers take deserving children shopping for warm clothes for the fall/winter school season. This year, thanks to a very successful Celebrity Waiter fundraiser and Golf Tournament, the club was able to clothe 103 children at $150 each, a significant increase over last year.

$3,000 to local food pantries to help alleviate hunger in the CCL area, including a $1,500 special donation to the food pantry at Tool to help pay for a cooler so the food pantry can provide more fresh items for families to encourage healthy eating.

$500 to the Family Peace Project to help those affected by domestic violence.

The club was also presented the prestigious Bill Campbell Award, a traveling award for Rotary District 5830, which recognizes one club in the district which has gone above and beyond to demonstrate the values and goals of Rotary; which not only embodies the spirit of Rotary, but excels in meaningful help to their local community and the larger world community. Of 44 clubs in the district from a wide area that included rural and city clubs; this is the third time the Rotary Club of Cedar Creek Lake has received the award in its 32 years of existence. The award was garnered for its 2017-18 year, while Bill Burnett was club president.

Current Club president (2018 – 2019), Greg Cooley expects to do even more during his tenure as president…

The club takes pride in being an active, growing club where membership has grown from 46 to 55 in six months, nearly a 20 percent growth, while many philanthropic and service groups struggle to maintain enough membership to achieve their goals for their community. The club attributes this to having great members who have a love of serving their community while having fun and fellowship. They have even added a fifth part to the Four Way Test of the things we think, say and do, asking, “Is it fun?”
Coming up for the club is their final fundraiser of the fiscal year which ends in June; their annual golf tournament (this year) at the Pinnacle Golf Club April 26. Every year this is a fun event, where the players golf, eat and enjoy fun perks, like celebrities to join their team as a fifth member. Last year, golfers got to meet and interact with Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders as well as former players.
Also coming up are various social activities for club members including a wine and paint night at Stop n Gogh art studio, steak night at the King’s Creek Golf Club and lunch at the Cedar Creek Brewery...

Those wishing to join the club may attend a meeting at the Cedar Creek Country Club, Fridays at noon. The club is always looking for members who have a heart to help children in our community and a willingness to serve….
